It has been a glorious weekend.

Labor Day. The day you spend doing all the household chores and errands you neglected for the previous two days.

I have spent the last two glorious days on the river with friends. The weather could not have been more perfect. The temperature hovered around 75* and the sun shone brilliantly with hardly a cloud in the sky. It was the perfect backdrop for drinks and laughs with friends I don’t spend time with often enough. The highlight was probably our brush with ocean-like surf. A huge cruiser flew past us, headed down river at full speed. Our friends pulled their fishing boat off the shore knowing they would be swamped if they stayed on shore with the size of the wake that was coming toward us. You could have surfed those breakers! At one point, as they left shore, they were completely vertical with water coming up over the TOP of their bow. Now I have a visual image to put in place when I read about ocean storms.

Princess Girl spent the weekend at her grandparents’ house. She was helping them prepare for their annual Labor Day party. Their house is smack dab in the middle of the route for the local Labor Day parade. What a great excuse for a party!

What this means, besides the fact that we were both social butterflies this weekend, is that the cats have had the run of the house for two full days. And they did not do any chores. They even seem to have scared off the laundry fairies. So today will be spent playing catch up on the housework before I go back to work tomorrow. Princess Girl will be at the parade until late afternoon so I can’t even use her as slave labor.

I can feel it already; I’m going to need a nap.
