She just can’t catch a break

Poor Princess Girl. Some days it is so hard to parent her because I can’t believe the amount of crap that gets piled on her.

This week is Team Placements for the coming year at her cheer gym. She has been working really hard to move up two levels. That is a large jump. She has been going to open gyms. She has been doing sit ups to strengthen her core. She has been doing jump drills… With weights on her ankles.

I thought she had it in the bag.

On Saturday, at an open gym, she broke her toe. Doing a very simple tumbling move that she has been able to do for 5 years or so. She must have just landed wrong…

So now she is at Team Placements (They do not call them try-outs because everyone makes a team. This is to place you on the team level for your ability.) with a very very sore and broken toe. Now she is at Team Placements worried that she will not move up even one level because she is not hitting everything her best through the pain of a broken toe.

I just want to cry for her.

Instead, I’m feeding her pain meds and icing her toe as often as possible and telling her to just push through the pain. She’ll have a week to rest the toe after tonight while we do college campus visits. I hope the gym sees what is there behind the broken toe.

Wish her luck.

On a Charter bus!

Just doesn’t have the same ring to it as Jet Plane does, does it? Well, today is the day. Princess Girl boards her charter bus headed to Orlando this evening. UCA Cheerleading Nationals here she comes.

She is very nervous, but I know she will do fabulously! We watched (again) the college nationals we have DVR’d for motivation last night.

This will likely be my last post until we return. Did I mention how happy I am that I am not riding on the charter bus? Well, I am very very happy… although last night Princess Girl said she wished I were riding with her. (I think mostly to make sure she has a steady stream of cash!)

See you on the flip side!

Princess Girl = Rock Star

I am a super proud parent today. Princess Girl’s cheer team won first place in her age/level at the Battle for the Behemoth Trophy competition (her gym’s home competition).

AND

Her team won GRAND CHAMPION! (Highest score of the whole competition.)

Grand champion is a big deal. Especially for Princess Girl’s team. The way cheer competitions are scored your level determines the maximum points you can be awarded for each stunt, move, tumbling pass. The higher your level, the more points available. It is based on difficulty, kinda like gymnastics and ice skating. What this means is a team from the highest level usually wins Grand Champ.

BUT

At this competition there were three teams at a higher level (more points available) and three teams at her level. Obviously, they got first at their level, but Grand Champion means they got higher scores than the three teams that have higher possible points!

GO IEC SENIOR L3!!!!!

And we are off to Nationals in three short days!

Trying to get everything planned for the trip to Cheerleading Nationals is rough. I know how to plan Disney. I can plan a trip to Disney that is structured so we don’t miss anything we want to see (sometimes twice), but with enough flexibility to be spontaneous and roll with any vacation changes we decide on. Having three days of cheer competition/team involvement that we have no experience with is leaving me at a loss on how to plan.

On top of that I am trying to plan for our spring break college visits. Again with no knowledge of those areas, timing of the things we will be doing, it’s tough.

But exciting!

Nationals! College visits! Big plans in the works… Now to figure out how to pay for it all.

I’m not dead

Christmas in the post-War United States

Several major projects at work… multiple million dollar projects that have taken all my time and brain matter appear to have been at least a partial cause for my poor blog to go silent for the last few weeks.

There was also Thanksgiving. A nice time with family was had, and Christmas plans were made. Cookie baking day is fast approaching! I can’t wait!

Let’s not forget Black Friday shopping that went VERY well. Did anyone out there know my Princess Girl is spoiled? Rightfully so, I think. We managed to get the Christmas tree up that weekend, too!

And of course cheerleading. There was a competition several weeks ago. The girls did fabulously. This coming weekend is a Nationals qualifier, and we have had girls dropping like flies to illness and injury so we are all anxious about how that will go. It should be a good time for everyone though, with team bonding Friday and competition all day Saturday.

I’ve also been working on my 2, 5 and 10 year plans. Need to be more concrete, but I see major changes on the horizon.

And somewhere, some time, I need to start wrapping presents.

Proud parent

Princess Girl’s gym participated in an all day cheer competition yesterday. Everyone did a good job. My Princess Girl was fabulous! I am so proud of how she has improved over the last few years. The way the levels and ages fell, her team was the only one in their group. That means they got first out of one. 🙂 Princess Girl proudly claimed they scared away all the competition.

On the down side, my back started to go out Friday afternoon. Sitting in the hard plastic chair at the competition all day yesterday about did me in. It was all I could do to come in to work today. Who knows if I will make it through the day.

Seriously. I am going to need a weekend off after this. Not only have I been on a project from HELL that has consumed all of my time and brain cells for the last three weeks, I have found now that 1929 accounts need to be manually updated and resent.

UGH!

On the bright side, Princess Girl has her first big competition of the season this weekend. We are very excited. And she is doing FANTASTICALLY well in school.

See you on Monday… If I make it though today.

Angry momma bear

All Star Cheer Squad

Apparently, 8 girls with no formal cheer training out-scored Princess Girl, who is on a nationally ranked competitive cheer squad, at football cheer tryouts yesterday.

Somehow I doubt it. Whatever the true reason she was cut from the squad, I guess it means I won’t be sitting in the bleachers in the cold this fall.

On a positive note, I am very proud of her. She is handling this much better than I am.

A Monday full of updates.

1. Princess Girl’s aunt is home from the hospital and doing okay. She is tired, but the doctors have stopped her body from rejecting the transplanted organs. She is on the road to recovery.

2. Our community has rallied around the family who lost their home to fire last week. There have been donations of clothes and money. A benefit is planned for next month.

3. Princess Girl made the cheerleading squad she tried out for. She is just over half a level below where she really wanted to be. But she is excited to be on the team. And, she claims this is going to motivate her to work on what is holding her back (her flexibility). You know, because mom telling you that’s what you need to work on isn’t really motivation at all.

4. J and I have decided to combine households. He has been the care taker for his grandmother’s house while she is in a nursing home and it is time to sell her house. And it is really hard to spend time together and with our respective children (his of the four legged variety) and alone. This will solve all those things. And help me afford a new cheer team!

5. The only update that is not of the good news variety… I seem to have developed allergies in the last few weeks. I have sneezed more in the last week than I have in my entire lifetime. What a miserable experience. And I know, at this point, mine are mild. My heart breaks for people who have suffered through this and worse their entire lives.
